Roky Erickson and the Aliens - The Evil One (1980)

Get ready to be taken on another one. This album quickly became the most spun in my collection for months after i heard it. Roky Erickson is by far the most talented and tuneful outsider artist of all time! In the tradition of Screamin' Jay Hawkins and Boris Pickett, Roky wrote campy horror/sci-fi B-movie subject matter set to bouncy poppy guitar rocking greatness. Its all here, LUCIFER, demons, two headed dogs, zombies, bloody hammers, and even creatures with atom brains!! This man wrote the greatest odes to Lucifer ever put to tape! Sure the sound has a lot of 80's polish on it and sounds like some kind of rockin' texas boogie-woogie at times, which does turn some off, but just try to listen to this and not become obsessed with these songs. There is many Roky albums with many different bands, but this is the one! This album is undeniable! This is for fans of shit that doesn't suck.

so the first time you played this for me, i was instantly put off by said boogie-woogie polish. then at home that night, the songs repeated over and over again in my head. this album truly 'blows your mind across the cosmos as a flaming comet of justice'.
